American artist Don Ivan Punchatz (1936-2009) was responsible cover art for Panshin's Rite of Passage published by Ace Books in the US in 1973. Vincent di Fate, in Infinite Worlds, states that Punchatz’s art is a ‘fascinating neo-primitive type of surrealism …conceptually sophisticated, brightly coloured and uniquely personal.’
