Mellor wrote some 100 papers for the British Ceramic Society Transactions, beginning with Crystalline Glazes in 1904 and including others such as The Zenith Temperature (1923-24), the intriguing Works’ Logic: The Whiskey and Soda Fallacy (1925-26), and The Chemical Constitution of the Clay Molecule: Review of Later Theories (1938). In 1932, ‘in recognition of achievements of exceptional value in ceramics’, he was made an honorary member of the American Ceramic Society.
