Abstract

In 1826, the sandalwood trader Peter Dillon was on the island of Tikopia where he was handed artifacts, recovered from the nearby Mannicolo Group, which had once belonged to La Pérouse. Dillon eventually took his finds to France, where he was decorated with the order of the Légion d’Honneur and given the sum of 4,000 francs by King Charles X.
