Abstract
This copy of Truby King’s The Feeding and Care of the Baby was owned by Dr Alexander Falconer, an Otago Medical School graduate and colleague of King’s at Seacliff from 1898. Falconer knew first hand of Dr G.F. McCleary’s infant feeding initiatives and milk depot establishment in Battersea, London. It was Falconer who furnished King with McCleary’s works on baby nutrition in 1905, which he believed ‘had a direct influence on the infant welfare movement in New Zealand’ (Bryder, 2003).
