Abstract
In 1906, King produced a pamphlet called The Evils of Cram, an argument against over-pressure in schools, where excessive study was ‘a leading factor in the production of degeneracy, making many women unfit for maternity and both sexes more or less incompetent.’ This publication by William James, the ‘Father of American Psychology’, is marked up by King at a passage pertinent to ‘cramming’. The book was obtained relatively early, with King signing it ‘F. Truby King 1899’.
