Of Gill’s engraving ability, Hilary Pepler noted his ‘sureness and steadiness of his hand at minute detail’. This coloured woodcut of Our Lady of Lourdes (1920) was done by Gill in 1920 when he was living at Hopkins Crank, Ditchling Common, Sussex.
