Abstract

Mrs Beatrice Ward was known as the ‘First Lady of Typography’. She modelled for Gill’s frontispiece in Art-Nonsense and Other Essays (1929) and was his main model for his Twenty-Five Nudes (1938). This portrait engraving (second state) was completed in 1926.
