Abstract

Robert and Moira Gibbings’s ownership of the GCP heralded a ‘golden age’ at the press. Robert was the creative mind while Moira took care of administration. Gibbings produced all the illustrations for all the books printed in the first year. When the Press found its feet and gained some success he brought in other engravers such as Dunedin-born John Buckland Wright, Eric Ravilious and of course Eric Gill. The success of the press was not all due to the Gibbingses; the talents, skill and professionalism of pressman Albert Cooper and compositors, Frank Young and Harry Gibbs contributed to this ‘golden age’. This foxed, signed copy of A. E. Coppard’s poetry contains six woodcuts by Gibbings and is number 395 of 425 copies.
