Abstract

‘It was in the thirty-fourth century that the dark star began its famous conquest…’ So begins Donald Wandrei’s Raiders of the Universes, the cover story in this issue of Astounding Stories. Minnesota-born Wandrei (1908-87) was an admirer and friend of H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937), an influential SF writer. Wandrei started writing in 1926. This cover, by Wesso, is inspired by a scene from the story.
