As the saying goes ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’, but of course people inevitably do. In fact the cover of a book is a very important factor in its marketing and there are two large markets on either side of the Atlantic – the UK and the US. Both countries have different ‘tastes’ in cover art. Healer was F. Paul Wilson’s (b. 1946) debut novel with cover artwork drawn by Joe Petagno. Petagno (b. 1948) lives in England and has designed the album artwork for bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Motörhead. Petagno’s own website states that his ‘paintings never fail to smash the retina like a broad sword to the skull’.
