Abstract

Colorado-born David B. Mattingly (b. 1956) finished his art training in Colorado and Pasadena and began work for Walt Disney Studios in his early twenties. With the advent of computer generated art design, Mattingly moved away from traditional painting into the digital world. He has a New Zealand connection, having worked with Weta Workshop (Wellington) on the movie I, Robot, based on a story by SF great, Isaac Asimov. Vincent di Fate, in Infinite Worlds, describes Mattingly’s art as having ‘intense colour’ and ‘dynamic energy’.
