Jack Vance’s The Dirdir is the third in a tetralogy in the Planet of Adventure series and the image on the cover was created by Jeffrey Catherine Jones (1944-2011). Jones began his career in SF illustration in the 1960s. An admirer of Vermeer and Rembrandt, Jones was a romantic and loved to paint women, not evidenced in this image. Born a man, Jones always felt like a woman inside and transitioned to womanhood aged 55.
