Abstract
Mellor’s growing reputation led to honorary memberships in other ceramic societies such as those in Germany and America. And he obviously enjoyed the socialising that came with such meetings. In 1929 the Ceramic Society (UK) travelled to America, where Mellor spoke to the American Ceramic Society at Ohio State University. Mellor immortalized this journey. He created a ‘Log-book of the Voyage’, containing cartoons of events (real and imagined), menus, and other ship-board ditties. The ‘last bottle’ reference in his ‘We Approach Our Destination’ is to Mellor’s favourite condiment – Worcester Sauce – which he apparently added to everything he ate.
