Abstract

Between 1905 and 1930, Mellor wrote six books for Longmans: Crystallisation of Iron & Steel (1905); Modern Inorganic Chemistry (1912); Introduction to Modern Inorganic Chemistry (1915); Higher Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry (1920); Elementary Inorganic Chemistry (1930); and Intermediate Inorganic Chemistry (1930). In between this work, Mellor kept himself busy. He was Director of the Research Laboratories of the Pottery Manufacturers' Federation (est. 1905); principal of North Staffordshire Technical College (1914); Director of Research for the British Refractories Research Association (est. 1919); and he also saw through the press the first volume of his magnum opus: A Comprehensive Treatise on Theoretical and Inorganic Chemistry (1922).
