Abstract
Attributed to the Euphiletos painter, this Greek amphora would have contained olive oil and would have been the prize for the winner of an event in the Panathenaic games in the 6th century BC. The black-figure image depicts men participating in a foot race, with the slower beardless youth coming last. The other side shows the goddess Athena. The vase is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
