The framed picture contains an 1885 prescription, and the note that accompanied it, which was presented to Professor Peter Coville. At the time it was common for pharmacists to put the prescription, handwritten by the doctor, in a prescription envelope (often with the name of the pharmacy and address on the front) and hand it to the patient. Coville was head of the pharmacy school at CIT (Wellington) until he resigned in 1985 to become Registrar and Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand; in 1989 he became professor and head of the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Otago, and the first Dean of the School of Pharmacy in 1991.
