Abstract

Nicholas d'Orbellis (c.1400-1475), a Franciscan theologian and philosopher, developed a considerable reputation as an expounder and commentator on the teachings of John Duns Scotus (c.1265-1308). Some controversy surrounds the authenticity of Duns Scotus' works, as his Ordinatio was left unfinished at the time of his death. It seems likely that d'Orbellis' commentary is based on Reportatio of Duns Scotus' lectures at the University of Paris, meaning they are based on the reconstructed notes taken by students present at his lectures in Paris.
