Lower right (l.r.) in pencil: EW [monogram]; margin above image: No 4 Sketch from the Sandhills close behind the camp. Looking inland shewing the ground on which the skirmish of 25th January took place. Some cultivations with stout cattle fencing lay about the few wharies composing the village, otherwise the ground was covered with heavy fern, and flax bushes 10 feet high. The tents denote the left of our camp. The gully running from the village to the Lake is not practicable except where a causeway was made. E.A. Williams, L.t Col.
