Margin in ink: T.M. Hocken; label in ink in Dr Hocken’s hand: The Miranda, Cap. R. Jenkins, & the Fawn Cap. R.P. Cator were ordered up from Taranaki by Commodore Seymore after the cessation of hostilities. To the left is the suburb of Parnell with an English & a Romish church. Going to the right are Mechanics & Official Bays with at the back the public domain, Gov.t House, Scotch Church, House of Representatives & other public buildings. Subjacent is the Wynyard Pier & to the right Britomart Point, Battery & S. Paul’s Church, then the commercial part of the city. In the background is Mount Eden. T.M.H.; label: Na Te Hakena Tenei Tiki; label: David Scott, Dunedin.
