Abstract
In 1942, Hilda Wiseman was asked to design a book label for the upcoming Churchill Auction. The auction was organised to raise money for the war effort, and rare books, manuscripts, and art pieces were donated by the patriotic public for sale. Four auctions were held throughout New Zealand. Almost all books for sale had a book label pasted in the front, serving as an identification sticker and a commemorative label. Three designs were executed by Wiseman for the auction, and this one has her distinctive ‘HW’ initials in the bottom right-hand side.
