Abstract

Growing up in a small country town, University of Otago graduate, Peter Seton Hay, managed to get hold of a volume called Circle of Sciences, a 19th century populist encyclopaedia, from which he gained his early mathematical knowledge. Here is The Imperial Encyclopaedia, otherwise known as Orr’s Circle of Sciences. This is the ‘Organic’ volume.
