Abstract
John McGlashan (1802-64) was born in Edinburgh, and studied to become a solicitor. Profound deafness meant he was unable to practice in court but according to Te Ara, McGlashan ‘established his reputation by numerous writings on legal subjects.’ This rather dry volume from his library on the General Turnpike Act of Scotland is a presentation copy from the author, Hugh Barclay (1799-1884). The McGlashan Collection, of about 100 volumes, was gifted to Special Collections in 1945.
