Chinese teapot (Jingdezhen, Jiangxi region, China)
Mellor Collection, Otago Museum (Image copyright, Otago Museum Dunedin)
This 19th century Chinese porcelain teapot is from Jingdezhen, a city synonymous with ceramics. The city is believed to have been producing fine ware from as early as the 6th century. This teapot was probably part of Mellor’s reference collection of ceramic items. After his death in 1938, Emma Mellor donated it (and others) to the Otago Museum.
